Stories from our communities across Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

From bustling city streets to quiet rural villages, Salesian communities across West Africa remain steadfast in their mission to accompany young people through every stage of life. Youth pastoral care lies at the heart of this work, offering adolescents and children a safe space to grow in faith, discover their talents, and build lasting friendships. Through oratory programs, youth groups, and retreats, young people encounter compassionate mentors who walk alongside them during moments of joy and difficulty alike. These pastoral initiatives are designed not only to nurture spiritual development but also to foster resilience, moral grounding, and a sense of belonging among the next generation of leaders in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

Education continues to be a powerful pathway out of poverty for thousands of children and teenagers in the region. Salesian schools, technical institutes, and vocational training centers provide young learners with practical skills and academic knowledge that open doors to dignified employment. From primary classrooms to advanced workshops in solar technology and laboratory sciences, students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for real-world challenges. Teachers and trainers work closely with each student, ensuring that no child is left behind. By combining classroom learning with character formation, these institutions empower youth to break cycles of hardship and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

Beyond the classroom, Salesian communities respond to the urgent material needs of vulnerable children and families through dedicated social development projects. Feeding programs, healthcare outreach, and shelter initiatives bring tangible relief to those facing economic hardship. During times of crisis whether caused by seasonal flooding, health emergencies, or community displacement local Salesian centers become hubs of support, distributing essential supplies and offering a welcoming presence. Women and girls benefit from targeted programs that promote dignity, skill acquisition, and empowerment. These works of mercy are carried out with deep respect for each person, reflecting the belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive in body, mind, and spirit.

The spirit of collaboration and mission extends across borders as Salesian communities in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and Sierra Leone share resources, training, and encouragement. Regular gatherings of educators, youth leaders, and pastoral workers foster a vibrant exchange of ideas and best practices. Capacity-building workshops help local staff and volunteers strengthen their skills in child protection, project management, and inclusive education. International partnerships with like-minded organizations amplify the reach of these efforts while respecting local cultures and traditions. Together, this network of dedicated men and women works tirelessly to ensure that young people across Anglophone West Africa walk into a future filled with hope, purpose, and opportunity.
