(AFW- Ghana) – Report on High Level Political Forum by Don Bosco Youth Network.

(Ashiaman- Ghana) – From Tuesday, July 9, to Thursday, July 18, the annual High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) took place at United Nations headquarters in New York City.
The program attracted more than 2,000 participants, including some 100 government ministers. Over 40 countries have presented their Voluntary National Reviews.
The HLPF is the main U.N. platform for follow-up and review of the progress made toward the 2030 Agenda, consisting of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were set out in 2015.
The departure was on 6th of July 2019 at Kotoka International Airport.
 The Provincial Economer Fr Christof Nizniak traveled with Benson Osei-Savio Boateng and Ms Abigail F Gyabaa  to Nairobi.
They were met on arrival by Fr Thomas the UN representative for Salesians of Don Bosco. He was in charge of the organisation of the event.
Ambassador of Samoa hosted the Don Bosco Youth Network West Africa delegation.
They got access to the UN and went to many places at the UN headquarters in New York.
Fr Mark at New Rochelle gave them a tour of their community and had Lunch with the delegates.
Ms Abigail F Gyabaa on the 11th at a side event represents the African Youth on Sustainable Development Goal 13, voicing Youth Aspirations and Climate Urgency.
Benson Osei-Savio Boateng , Advocacy and Networking coordinator of the Anglophone West Africa Salesian Province’s development office, showed what Salesian works in Ghana, especially Don Bosco Technical Institute, are doing to provide diverse educational programs that will meet the demand for skills training.
Madam Ugona and Madam Beauty Co board chairs of all Civil Society Organisations in Ghana supported the Salesians of Don Bosco at most of the events.
Friday 12 the team experienced Friday for the future where students come to demonstrate against climate change at the UN headquarters.
The Ghana exhibition stand was also that of the Civil Society Organisations and the team supported with explaining Ghana to those who visited the stand.
They delegation had lunch with Madam Martha Ama Akyaa Phoobe the permanent delegate to United Nations.
During the reading of the Voluntary National Review (VNR) report, Ghana was presented by government but Ghana presented with the civil societies.
Don Bosco at the High Level Political Forum helped represent the young people and their views to the world.

(AFW-Ghana) – First Baptism and Holy Communion in Bikpanjibe

(Tatale-Ghana) – On 28th July 2019 the first Baptism and Holy Communion in Bikpanjibe community  took place.
After three years of nurturing children who accepted to be Catholics in their Community they finally get take their first Holy Communion.
We thank God with them and pray for grace to lead others to Christ through their lifestyle.
Congratulations to our new Bikpanjibe Catholics.

(AFW -Ghana) -Send Off Mass and Lunch for Fr. Mark Anthony Okpala.

(Ashiaman – Ghana) – On Monday 29th July 2019, the staff of Provincial Development Organism and Don Bosco Technical Institute met to say good bye to Father Mark Anthony Okpala who is going to Ireland for further studies.
There was a mass at 12 noon presided by Father Mark Anthony Okpala.
At lunch staff told him of some of the memories they shared.
The street children training program which took most of them off the streets and gave them skills was initiated by him in Sunyani.
In all he spent 9 years in Ghana 6 of it at Sunyani and the last 3 years at Ashiaman where he served as he Youth Ministry Director and the Principal of Don Bosco Technical Institute Ashiaman.

(AFW – Nigeria)-Animators Camp at Akure in Nigeria

(Akure- Nigeria) – From 25th July to 28th July 2019 a preparatory camp is organised for all animators helping the 2019 Holiday Camp at Akure.
Fr Stephen Omoniyi, the Rector of the Akure Community and Youth Delegate, welcomed the animators for their preparatory camp on Thursday 25th July, 2019.
The animators will be taken through rigorous training on how to impact positively the lives of the children.
There is also physical training for all animators.
Thank you to all volunteering as animators this year at Akure Don Bosco Holiday Camp 2019.

(AFW – Nigeria) – The MoU Signing Ceremony between German Delegation and Salesians of Don Bosco

(Lagos-Nigeria) – On Tuesday, July 23, 2019. Fr Anthony Prince Oche represented the Salesians of Don Bosco Anglophone West Africa Province to sign a memorandum of Understanding with Nigerian German Chambers of Commerce.
Engr. Stephen Awoyele represented the German Delegation (AHK).
Don Bosco has contributed greatly to skill acquisition for young people in Nigeria.
We have training centers in 9 communities where our main focus and dedication is to train young people in technical and vocational skills such as building technology, catering, electrical installation, dressmaking, welding, carpentry, computer technology, solar installation and many others.
When Nigerian German Chambers of Commerce approached us to work on a Momorandum of Agreement for a ‘Dual Vocation Training System’ it was of a mutual interest.
Partnerships for skill training of young people is the main focus of Don Bosco Anglophone West Africa Province.

(AFW- Kenya)- Priestly Ordination of Fr. Peter Nguyen Trong Ngia at Niarobi, Kenya.

(Nairobi-Kenya) – Fr. Peter Nguyen Trong Ngia SDB was ordained in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 12th July, 2019.
 Fr. Krzysztof Nizniak SDB, the Provincial Economer,  represented the Provincial, Fr. Micheal Karikunnel SDB and the Anglophone West Africa Province.
Many of the family members of Fr. Peter Nguyen Trong Ngia SDB  came from Vietnam to grace the occasion.

(AFW-Nigeria)- Final Profession of Three Salesians at Iju, Lagos

(Lagos-Nigeria) – On the 7th July, 2019, three of the Salesians received their Final Profession at Mary Help of Christians Salesian Community  in Iju, Lagos.
 Fr Chuks Akubueze, the Vice Provincial of AFW province received the final vows of S. Joshua Pilaku, S. Sunday Cyril Akinyele and S. Michael Okolo.
We thank God for the life of these young men devoted to service to young people.

(AFW- Nigeria) – Partnership for Lifting Young People with Obijackson Foundation.

(Lagos- Nigeria) – On 22nd July 2019 the PDO Antenna accompanied by the Provincial, Fr Michael Karikunnel and the Delegate, Fr Prince Anthony Oche, paid a courtesy visit to Mrs Nnenna Obiejesi of Obijackson Foundation.
It was friendly moment between the Salesians and the Obijackson Foundation.
The Provincial thanked Mrs Nnenna for her continuous show of generosity and support to the Salesian mission in Nigeria. New frontiers of collaboration could be possible in future.
Obijackson Foundation has been a great support to the street Children program in Ibadan and has played a fundamental role in the establishment of our new Child Protection Centre in Lagos.
Our respect and appreciation to Obijackson Foundation for their long standing partnership with Don Bosco West Africa!

(AFW -Ghana) – World Day Against Trafficking of Persons Commemorated at AG Care, Agbobloshie, Accra.

(Agbobloshie- Ghana) -Don Bosco Anglophone West Africa Province, Don Bosco Child Protection Center, Civil Society Organisations and The Gender, Children and Social Protection Ministry marked this years blue day with a community sensitization program.
The program with the theme “Together, We End Human Trafficking Now” brought most stakeholders to work towards ending human trafficking.
As an organisation with the welfare of young vulnerable girls in mind we have seen the woeful trend of how girls are being trafficked more than their male counterparts.
Traffickers come with various luring promises of jobs such as housekeeping, cleaning etc to be exposed to abusive conditions at their destination
Projects like Zongo Cuisine Promo which assist those cooking to expand their business  and the Lifeline Projects help give skills to young vulnerable girls to prevent trafficking.
The Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection called on parents to educate their children especially the girl child. She said travelling outside through a person promising employment might end in your even losing your life.
The program ended with participants getting refreshed.

(AFW- Nigeria) – Five Salesian Priests Ordained by John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the Archbishop of Abuja.

(Abuja – Nigeria)- On the 13th July 2019, at the Church of the Archangels Parish, Abuja witnessed a beautiful ordination ceremony for 5 Salesian Priests.
John Cardinal Onaiyekan, the Archbishop of Abuja was the ordaining Prelate supported by the Provincial Fr Micheal Karrikunnel, the Vice Provincial Fr. Chuks and all the Salesian community in Anglophone West Africa Province.
The new Priests are Fr. Esuk Stephen SDB, Fr Ike Charles SDB, Fr. Nwankwo George SDB, Fr Nweke Emmanuel SDB and Fr Okoh Isaac SDB.
Congratulations to our new Priest who are going to devote the rest of their lives to the service of humanity and young people.
